YOUNG swimmers from across Stockton are taking part in a swimming festival today.
The Active Sports Swimming Festival at the town's Splash pool is expected to attract 24 youngsters aged between eight and ten who have been singled out by teachers and swimming coaches as having real potential .
Diving, swimming lengths, floats and a variety of swimming styles will all be on display during the event.
The festival follows a similar event in Billingham last week involving 14 youngsters.
Youngsters from both events are expected to take part in a swimming camp starting at the end of August at Billingham Forum.
Emma Warnes, Stockton Borough Council's sports development officer, said: "The festivals provide the youngsters with a series of enjoyable and challenging experiences with an introduction to competition."
The events are run in conjunction with Teesside Sport, the council's sports development, Stockton Amateur Swimming Club and Billingham Amateur Swimming Club.
Another festival, organised with the help of Thornaby Amateur Swimming Club, is planned for Thornaby later this year.
