PROPOSALS for a £2.5m complex for the elderly, made up of one and two-bedroomed flats, are now on view at Stokesley.

North Yorkshire County Council, in partnership with Broadacres Housing Association and Hambleton District Council, wants to develop a range of facilities on the site of the former highways depot in North Road. The scheme will provide a range of services similar to those found in care homes, with round-the-clock support available from a team of staff. There are two design options on display at the county council library in Stokesley. People are being urged to study the plans and make their views known at a public meeting planned for Wednesday, September 11, at 7.30pm, in Stokesley Town Hall.

FESTIVAL FUN: Knares-borough's summer festival continues this week, with a disco for under-18s at the town's Night Out club from 7pm tonight. Music and humour are promised at the Henshaws Art and Craft Centre when Sid Kipper performs from 8.30pm tonight, while the same venue hosts an open air performance of Shakespeare's As You Like It from 6pm tomorrow. ROCK LEGENDS: A guided walk around the limestone formations at Brimham Rocks takes place from 2pm tomorrow. The two-mile stroll will include stories behind some of the names given to the rocks, which overlook the Nidderdale countryside on the edge of Summerbridge.
