A SUPPORT service for youngsters has helped 199 people since it opened a month ago.

The service, Connexions County Durham, aims to bring together experts to help people aged 13 to 19 with problems they might face, from low self-esteem to homelessness.

Connexions was formerly known as the Careers Service, but has relaunched and relocated from North Road, Durham, to Millennium Place, next to the city's Gala Theatre. Despite helping nearly 200 people since opening on July 9, local manager Alan Lockyear is concerned people who have used the service before may not be aware of the name change.

He said: "It is important that young people in the area realise that the Connexions service has relocated from its previous base."

The new premises are also now accessible to people in wheelchairs.
