TEENAGERS living in parts of Middlesbrough are to take part in a one day festival.

The free festival, which will be called the Directions Big Day, is being staged for youngsters from the Easterside, Saltersgill and Beechwood areas.

A school field in Easterside will host an inflatable assault course, a music stage and a wide variety of arts based activities.

The event, next Friday, will begin at 2pm and will run for five hours.

The festival has been organised to celebrate the work of the Directions Project, which works with young people.

Mike Dent, project worker with Directions, said: "Often events are organised for younger children or families. We work with people aged 13 to 16, so we have designed a festival especially for them."

Planning for the festival started with sessions on video, DJ skills and work with a girls group who are arranging the on site catering.

Mr Dent said: "It is definitely an event where you come along and take part. Young DJs will be doing their first live performances and the girl's group will be running their Munchies cafe."

All activities are free, and the first 170 people will receive a commemorative T-shirt.

The Directions Big Day will run from 2pm to 7pm in the Easterside Primary School Field.
