A NORTH Yorkshire authority has underlined its commitment to environmentally-friendly polices.

Hambleton District Council has bought four new vans, which run on either liquid petroleum gas (LPG) or unleaded fuel with the help of a £5,000 grant from the Energy Saving Trust. The vehicles will be used by the authority's pest control and operational services teams.

The council's environmental health spokesman, Councillor David Webster, said: "We have always placed great importance on maintaining a sustainable environment when ordering new vehicles for our front-line services.

"Emissions by our refuse collection vehicles have been reduced, and converting these new vehicles to dual fuel shows our commitment to a cleaner environment."
