Steven Parker, 42, of Oxclose, Washington, appeared before Houghton-le-Spring magistrates yesterday charged with the murder of Jean Charlton, 71.
Mrs Charlton was found dead in her home at the weekend. Mr Parker was remanded in custody to appear at Newcastle Crown Court for a plea and directions hearing on August 28.
