A DRINKS firm hopes to put some pep into a seaside skate park.

Pop manufacturer Sprite is behind a "substantial'' investment in Redcar's R-Kade Skate park.

The money has been put into the commissioning of a spined mini-ramp designed in collaboration with local skaters.

Skate park spokeswoman Nicki Whaites said: "We are delighted that Sprite has chosen R-Kade as one of the first skate parks to benefit from the Sprite Skate Support (SSS) programme. It is a great project to be involved in and is a fantastic way of helping skate parks to provide better facilities for skaters and BMX bikers.''

Sprite spokeswoman Judith Levey said: "Since its launch four years ago the Sprite Urban Games has become GB's leading skate and urban culture event. The SSS activity replicates the spirit of the Sprite Urban Games throughout Great Britain by investing in urban sports at their grassroots.''

A day's free skating session is being held at the park on September 7.
