Bishop Auckland manager Alan Shoulder has told his players not to take part in Sunday football.

Shoulder asked his squad not to play on Sundays without his permission before the season started, and he immediately ruled out that reason for Bishops' 4-1 defeat at Chorley on Bank Holiday Monday.

"I instructed the players not to play on Sundays, because the players are important as far as the club is concerned.

"If I discover that somebody is, then I'll bring in players to replace them, and they'll be sacked. They'll be no good to this club if one of them is injured playing on a Sunday."

Shoulder admitted that Bishops were well beaten at Chorley, despite a late goal from Kraig Wilkinson, who had another promising game.

"The way we lost annoyed me more than anything. That was one of the worst performances since I've been at the club.

"The players were heavy-legged, and didn't look sharp. We were on the bus for longer than we expected because of the traffic, but that's no excuse.

"We're capable of beating a lot of teams in this league. When we lost 3-1 to North Ferriby last week I didn't think there was anything in it, but we didn't play at all well at Chorley."

Gateshead have signed former Middlesbrough defender Nicky Mohan, who has been freed by Hull City, and he made his debut last week in the home defeat by Wakefield and Emley.

Former Middlesbrough and Hartlepool forward Chris Freestone has signed for UniBond First Division club Leek Town.
