THE head of a major taxi company has denied speculation that Darlington's station rank drivers were to be evicted.

Rumours had been circulating that national private hire company Taxibank UK, which was awarded the franchise by GNER for the town's railway station, would be evicting drivers yesterday.

The firm's managing director, Quentin Curtis, said: "There is some discussion going on with GNER elsewhere on the route, but no-one's been evicted at Darlington. We continue to be offering a good service at the station - that's our aim. We are not in the business of evicting people."
