PLANS for a nightclub in Redcar have been unveiled.
No objections have been received so far for the club, which would be the town's fifth, even though the official deadline for comments from the public is today.
Redcar and Cleveland Council received the application to create a nightclub at the old Palace theatre, on Redcar's Esplanade. Applicant Paul Raffique already owns other nightclubs and pubs in the town.
One member of the public, who declined to be named, called The Northern Echo to complain that the council had not given the public the statutory three weeks needed to respond from the point of notification.
But a council spokesman said neighbours to the proposed nightclub had in fact been told of the plan in plenty time and the site notice was erected on August 22.
The notice was torn down but later put up again by the council.
He said that letters and comments would still be received by members of the public in the coming days.
The planning department may be able to make a decision on the nightclub under delegated powers, but the application could still go to committee in three weeks time.
The council spokesman stressed that even if permission was given for a nightclub in principle, Mr Raffique would still have to apply for a liquor licence.
The public and the police would be able to comment at that time.
