FLAT racing on turf finishes in about seven weeks' time prompting trainers to send their horses far and wide in search of in search of success.

Amanda's Perrett's horse box for instance will have clocked up around 250 miles transporting Tuneful (4.20) from her base at Pulborough in West Sussex, all the way up to Beverley in East Yorkshire.

Tuneful goes for the extended seven furlong Maiden Fillies' Stakes on the back of just one run at Salisbury where the daughter of Pivotal finished third.

But that statistic hides the real truth of the race because half of the field raced on the stands' side, while the other half headed for the far rail.

And it was Tuneful who won the race on the far rail. Unfortunately for Amanda the ground on the stands' side was clearly faster since the first two home came from that group.

There will be no such bias at Beverley this afternoon and with Perrett's stable in flying form, Tuneful should have the measure of the main danger, Sir Michael Stoute's Shell Garland.

Shell Garland failed to show an instant return on what was not an unsubstantial $525,000 price tag when failing to win on her debut at Newmarket last month, nonetheless the filly showed sufficient promise to suggest it'll not be long before she gets on the scoresheet.

Another long distance traveller is Paul Cole's Whatcombe raider, Full House (4.20).

I saw Full House perform at Pontefract much earlier on in the season and was struck what a beautiful looking colt he was.

Pity he hasn't run up to his good looks otherwise he'd have a totted a ton of prize money by now.

The sad fact is Full House has been bitterly disappointing, that was until last time out when he finished second to a useful three-year-old of Con Horgan's, Ocean Drive. I also notice the selection had been gelded prior to his latest effort, an operation that often improves a horse's attitude no end.

Even though Michael Dods has his string in excellent fettle, it'll take a brave punter to go steaming in on the quirky Mungo Park (3.05) for the Allied Irish Bank Claiming Stakes at Sandown.

Mungo Park has a bit to find at the weights with the David Nicholls-trained Proud Native. Having said that, the stiff five furlong track will suit Mungo Park's hold-up style of running, and even more encouragingly Dods did have a winner at the course last Sunday with John O'Groats.

In the £12,000 Showcase Handicap, Rhythm Of Life (4.10) could surprise some more fancied rivals now that she has cured her aversion to the stalls as well as being stepped up to one mile for the first time. The Danny Wright Handicap at Yarmouth features the quick reappearance of both Bandler Ching (3.55) and Pinchincha, second and fourth respectively in a £20,000 event at Doncaster last Saturday.

Bandler Ching appeared to have the race sewn up having swooped into the lead with only 100 yards to travel, but it was not to be as he was unluckily nailed right on the wire by Vicious Warrior.

Pinchincha was also finishing like a rocket and although there'll not be much between the pair, I fancy Bandler Ching to confirm his narrow superiority.
