THE North-East's own Eric Clapton could be heading for China.

Mike Hall, the Durham-born Slowhand look and sound-alike, has been invited to do a mini-tour by a promoter in Beijing.

Mike, 50, of Newcastle, said: "I never ever dreamed we'd get to play in China."

While Mike and his band, Classic Clapton, are waiting to hear if the China tour comes off, they are looking forward to their next North-East gig, at 7.30pm on Saturday, at the Whitley Bay Playhouse.

Tickets cost £10 (concessions £9) and are available from the Playhouse box office on 0191-252 3505.

The band, which first made their name in the North-East as After Midnight, have spread their wings and now play throughout the country.

They perform songs from many eras of the guitar legend's career and the show features an unplugged section.
