AN estimated £9,500 worth of damage was caused during a break-in at Woodham Burn Junior School, Humphrey Close, Newton Aycliffe, at the weekend.

A window and a skylight were smashed and an unsuccessful attempt was made to steal a computer.

CASH TRIBUTE: Friends of Jean Glass, a 53-year-old Bishop Auckland woman killed in a car accident near Spennymoor last week, have thanked everyone at Tindale Crescent Working Men's Club who supported a collection in her memory, which raised £110. Ms Glass's funeral is being held tomorrow.

WINDOW DAMAGE: A window was smashed at a house in Derwent Place, Newton Aycliffe, at 11pm on Monday, causing £100 worth of damage.

BIKE SNATCHED: A mountain bike worth £200 was stolen from a house in Alnwick Close, Ferryhill, between 6.30pm and 7.15pm on Monday.

RACE NIGHT: The Brown Trout, at Sunnybrow, near Bishop Auckland, is holding a charity race night tonight. Money raised will go to the Welcome Club, the Friends of Wear Valley and Leukaemia Research.

ROCK NIGHT: The Belvedere Club, Bishop Auckland, is holding a rock night on Friday, from 7pm.

MUSIC SELL-OUT: Tickets are sold out for Bishop Auckland Music Society's recital by Sir Thomas Allen and Simon Over, at Auckland Castle, on September 27.

CHARITY FAIR: Whitworth Hall Country Park, near Spennymoor, is hosting a country fair to raise money for the British Red Cross on Sunday, from noon to 4pm.

SPONSORED SHAVE: Harry Grimes, a regular at Ferryhill Station Club, is to have his head shaved at the club on Sunday, at 8.45pm, to raise money for the premature baby unit at Bishop Auckland General Hospital.
