VINTAGE cars and fire engines are just some of the vehicles on display this weekend in North Yorkshire.

Crowds will be drawn to see vehicles of a bygone era at the 28th working weekend of the Vintage Machinery Society. Having been cancelled last year due to the foot-and- mouth outbreak, the show takes place at Hornby Castle park, near Hackforth.

Motorbikes, kit cars, military vehicles and nearly 100 cars will create a spectacular display for both young and old to enjoy.

Events are taking place throughout the weekend, including a display in the arena by six road bikes and a vintage tractor ploughing competition tomorrow. People can wander around stalls and see handicrafts set out in the marquee.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance will be there at the park and their helicopter will touch down tomorrow at 1pm.

Event organiser, Mike Priestman, said: "It's a family day out to see vintage working at its best.

"Events take place on both days, although Sunday is by far the busiest, with trophies being awarded in the arena for the best vehicles and a commercial wagon run to Scorton and back.

"All the proceeds from the two days, after costs have been covered, will go to the Swaledale Rescue Centre, the Air Ambulance and other local charities."

The show is open on both days between 10.30am and 4.30pm. Admission today: adults £2.50, OAPs £1.50 and children 50p, and tomorrow, adults £3, OAPs £2 and children 50p.
