ROYLE family actor Ralf Little has revealed he is considering quitting showbusiness - for a chance to win a place in the football squad at Hartlepool United.

The 22-year-old, who plays idle teenager Anthony, wants to trade showbiz glitz for the unglamorous world of Third Division football - but will inevitably be making a TV show of his flirtation with football's lower echelons.

His production company, Bite Your Legs, has contacted the Victoria Park club for permission to film a training session with the squad, and if he impresses, a possible move for the aspiring left-back.

Hartlepool manager Chris Turner said yesterday: "Ralph's company has been putting it about that he is looking to become a professional footballer.

"They asked if we would be interested in doing a documentary about him becoming a player. We have had Ralph watched in one charity game and will be looking at him in another.

"We have been told that he is a decent player, and from what we know he's not bad.

"I expect he will train with us and we will see how it goes.

"It is something we are looking forward to, plus I love the Royle Family and would not mind meeting Ricky Tomlinson."

Little told Century FM radio listeners yesterday that he has always wanted a shot at professional football.

He said: "I've had trials with Swindon and I've also been seen by Hartlepool.

"I really want to become a professional footballer and I don't want to be 40 and look back and think I could have made it.

"I don't know if I'm good enough, but I will give it my best shot. I am after a contract with Chris Turner and Hartlepool and I'd pack it all in today. I'd play for Hartlepool, I'd move to Hartlepool and I'd play football every day."

Little hopes that TV chiefs will broadcast his documentary next summer.
