THE QUAKERS of Thirsk are inviting people to a talk at the Meeting House in Kirkgate to mark the 350th anniversary of their group's founding.

Quakers are still much involved in helping those in need and Joyce Pickard will be there tomorrow at 7.30pm to tell the Quaker story. There will also be an open morning at the meeting house on Saturday. For more information call (01845) 522634.

HADRIAN'S WALL: There will be a computer-aided talk on the Roman fort of Vindolanda, on Hadrian's Wall, at the Galtres Centre, Easingwold, on Saturday. Tickets for the presentation by director of excavation, Robin Birley, cost £3 for adults and £1 for children, from Alternatives on Chapel Street, the Galtres Centre or at the door. The talk starts at 7.30pm. A bar will be available.

OPERA FEMINA: An opera company with a difference will be performing at Sowerby Music's concert at St Oswalds Church, at 7.30pm on Saturday. Opera Femina is the UK's first all-female opera company. COMMUNITY MINIBUS: The Bedale volunteer minibus project holds a fundraising car boot sale in Bedale Park on Saturday, October 19. More information about the popular free service, which relies on volunteer drivers, is available by telephoning (01677) 425329.

FASHION SHOW: Friends of the Dales School are holding a clothes show at the school next Tuesday. The event starts at 7pm. Tickets cost £2 and are available from the school office or by calling (01609) 772932.

CANCER RELIEF: Residents at Abbeyfield Northallerton wish to thank all who supported its Macmillan coffee morning. Visitors helped the residents, staff and committee to raise £128, bringing their fundraising total to £250 for cancer relief.
