POLICE are trying to track down two huge garden ornaments which were stolen from a property in Darlington, overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The stone sculptures, which depict a lion and an eagle, were taken from a home in Briar Walk. The eagle is said to have its beak missing. Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Greg Beswick on (01325) 467681.

CASH BOOST: Builders' merchants Builder Center has given a boost to the Children's North-East charity. Darlington branch manager Andy Howe took part in a Three Peaks walk, which raised £1,000 for the charity. The total also included a £100 donation from the Builder Center's branch in Northallerton, North Yorkshire.

PENSIONER VICTIM: Police are appealing for help after two men forced their way into an 84-year-old man's home in Hotspur Street, Byker, Newcastle, and stole cash. The burglary took place at 4.30pm on Monday. Anyone with information is asked to call 0191-214 6555.
