A consultant anaesthetist with a taste for true murder stories is to have a book published.

Keith Wilkinson, 46, formerly of Sacriston near Durham, has written Manx Murders, which details 21 murder cases on the Isle of Man between 1859 and 1982.

Mr Wilkinson, who now works and lives on the island with his wife and three daughters, became an avid reader of true- crime books when he was ten years old and living in Sacriston.

He said: "My dad used to get crime books and I started reading them.

"The first one I read was about Ian Brady. It was disturbing, and it's still disturbing when I read it now. But I have been hooked ever since."

After working at Newcastle's General Hospital and Royal Victoria Infirmary, and Sunderland General Hospital as a senior registrar in anaesthesia, before moving to the Isle of Man.

Mr Wilkinson said some of the proceeds from Manx Murders will go to the NSPCC.

The book is to be published by Mainstream Publishing and will go on sale next year priced £9.99.
