THE FA Sunday Cup First Round was played at Eppleton CW last Sunday with Hetton Lyons Cricket Club entertaining Oakenshaw FC from Bradford.

Marc Riches came in for the suspended Gareth McNary as Hetton fielded their strongest side.

Hetton Lyons dominated the second half and in the 53rd minute Ian Dixon found the net after some good football. Several more chances fell to the Hetton side but these either found the Simon Sharp, the keeper, or narrowly missed. Late in the second half Oakenshaw were down to ten men as one player received a second yellow card. After constant pressure from Hetton Lyons, Ben Ryan scored in the 90th minute to secured the win.

In the Racing Promotions Trophy Holders Murton Village went through to the next round winning 4-3 against visitors Waterhouses. Murton needed the Golden Goal to put them into the next round.

Robert Wright ,Brian Cross and Alan Farquar had opened the scoring and then Paul Imeson scored the Golden Goal in the 95th minute.

Goals from Eddie Hudspeth and Chris Hedley gave Glendale a 2-1 home win over Ferryhill WMC. Fishburn WMC entertained Gilesgate Moor Hotel the Premier side winning 7-2 with goals from Wayne Richards (2), Peter Cummings (2), Andrew Howarth, Steve Smitrh and Alan Birchall.

In the all Premier sides tie visitors Meadowfield Brancepeth Castle were 2-1 winners over home side North Biddick, Tony Hanson and Trevor Ball scored for the Brancepeth and Lee Cosgrove replying.

Washington Dunlop were 5-0 winners at Lumley Snooker Club, Newton Hall were 4-2 winners over visitors Lambton Village, with Dave Oliver hitting a hat trick plus a solo effort from Darren Burnham.

Goals from Andrew Bowes and Graeme Defty gave visitors Houghton Chilton Lodge a 2-2 scoreline after 90 Mins at Washington Arms. Extra Time failed to produce any further goals, so the tie went to penalties with the home side winning 6-4.

A Micheal Fort goal was not enough for Brandon Sports as they were beaten 2-1 by visitors Ouston Red Lion. Houghton Comrades travelled to Langley Park WMC but two fine strikes from Gary Muncaster was not enough to prevent them going down 5-2.

Two Goals from Kevin Coates plus one from James Slater was enough to give Witton Gilbert WMC a 3-2 home win over Brandon Bay Horse.

Newton Aycliffe WMC were 3-1 winners over Bowburn Cooperage. A hat trick from Brett Winlow gave Washington Sports Victory at Premier Side Coxhoe WMC 3-2 and Durham City WMC were 4-0 home winners over Horners.

In the First Division Kelloe WMC recorded their first away win of the season winning 2-1 at Hetton New Inn Andy Soppitt and Gary Turton scoring. Sacriston WMC were 3-1 winners at Lumley Sports and Social, Sunderland Lakeside returned to winning ways with a fine hard fought win over visitors Belmont Sportsmans 4-3.

In the Second Division New Herrington Filghters were 7-2 winners at Houghton Mill All Stars thanks to goals from Micheal Murphy (2), Ross Kennedy ,Andrew Ridley, Dave Murphy, Andy Gartland and Dave Waddle.

In the Third Division Bede Lodge won away for the first time this season winning 6-2 at The Brittania Inn, Niel Murray (2), Nick Barker (2),Drew Urwin and Barry Donne.

In the Fourth Division Burnmoor Dun Cow were 3-1 winners at Durham Pot and Glass.

Goals from Phill Barron, Craig Lavery and Phill Atkinson saw Pelton Fleece win 3-2 at Bearpark WMC.

Birtley William IV were 2-1 home winners over Esh Winning Cricket Club thanks to goals two goals from Paul Proud.
