DRIVERS are being warned of a three-week road closure in Stockton.

As part of the advanced works for the South Stockton Link Road, Bowesfield Lane will be closed from Monday October 21.

The closure will allow Northumbrian Water to put a main water diversion in place.

This will in turn, permit the widening of the A66 Bowesfield Lane overbridge, which will carry the new eastbound slip road off the A66 on to the South Stockton Link Road.

The road will be closed between the George Wimpey offices on the Bowesfield site and the Kvaerner office on the Parkfield site.

The works are a continuation of the utility diversions that are required as a result of the scheme.

The road was closed early in the summer to allow Northern Electric to divert electricity cables. However, due to the complex nature of the diversion works, the two closures could not be combined.

All businesses along the closed stretch of road will be open as usual and access to all properties will be maintained, with pedestrian and cyclist through access also in place.

A signed diversion route will be in place throughout the closure taking traffic via Concorde Way, Yarm Road, Yarm Lane, Churchyard Linkroad and Parkfield Road.

Once the section of road reopens, works will continue next to Bowesfield Lane using the existing permanent traffic signal shuttle system.
