A BRIDGE was recognised as one of the contenders for a Prime Minister's award, with a plaque yesterday.

Paul Finch, deputy chairman of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (Cabe), presented the plaque, for the Millennium Bridge, to Gateshead Council leader Mick Henry and MP Joyce Quin.

It is one of eight structures nationally to be shortlisted for the Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award.

The overall winner will be announced on October 23 at the British Construction Industry Awards dinner.
