ABOUT 7,000 daffodils will be planted at Ripon this weekend.

The bulbs will be planted at Goose Common as part of the city's work to win the Britain in Bloom title next year. Ripon Rotary Rowels and Ripon in Bloom will be busy preparing the site for a stunning display next spring.

The Mayor of Harrogate, Councillor Alan Skidmore, and the Mayor of Ripon, Councillor Bernard Bateman, will be helping to plant the daffodils and lending their support to the campaign to win the trophy at next year's competition.

Ripon councillor Pat Marsh said that the site had been derelict for many years and had become a dumping area for building waste and refuse. In 1996 it was landscaped and is now one of Ripon's open green spaces.

Ripon in Bloom hopes the whole community will help with the campaign to make it a more colourful city.
