A MASS for the Catenian Association will be held at York Minster, at 11am today.

The mass will see 2,500 Catenians and their families attending from more than 100 groups. People are expected to travel from as far afield as Aberdeen, London, Chester and Southend. The Catenian Association is an organisation for professional catholic men, founded in Manchester in 1908. It has an international influence, with more than 11,000 members around the globe, including Africa, Australia and Hong Kong. The principal guest at the service will be the vice-president, Gerald Soane.

£5,000MISSION: Traders in Whitby are trying to raise £5,000 to brighten up the town with lighting this Christmas. Chairman of the appeal Saul Black said Scarborough Borough Council had already agreed to give £3,000 and businesses in the town were now being urged to fund the balance. "Decorative lighting will enhance Whitby's appeal to shoppers and visitors which will be good for the town's economy," he said.

ROVER STOLEN: Police are hoping the public may be able to help trace a car stolen from Richmond's Newbiggin. The blue Rover - registered L48 FPY - was parked on the cobbled street on Wednesday night and had disappeared the next morning. Anyone who may have seen it being driven away or who has seen it since can contact officers in Richmond.

ROCKING BACK: Regulars at the Three Horseshoes in Brompton are ready for a top night of entertainment. Local rock guitarist, John Taylor, returns on Friday following a successful show at the pub earlier this year.

SAW POINT: Anyone with valuable tools in sheds and outhouses is being urged to review their security following thefts reported in the Richmond area. A chainsaw was stolen from a barn at a property near Leyburn, while two more have gone missing from an outbuilding near Dalton. Security advice is available from the police.
