A WASTE disposal firm has released more information about its bid to move onto an industrial estate on the edge of the A1.

Firms in Brompton-on-Swale are worried having Yorwaste as a neighbour could have an impact on their trade.

However, Yorwaste has argued that it needs a temporary base soon, as the landfill site at nearby Scorton closes next summer, and a waste transfer site along the road at the Tancred Quarry will not be ready by then.

As a result, the firm is asking Richmondshire District Council for temporary permission to use an industrial unit in Bridge Road, on the Gatherley Industrial Estate.

It estimates, if the facilities are approved, they would be dealing with approximately 50,000 tonnes of rubbish a year - delivered by dustbin lorry, with waste not suitable for recycling taken on to local tips.

However, in an effort to allay local concern, Yorwaste has promised it will install an odour control facility at the station if council planners agree to allow the facility to go ahead.

The firm adds it does not anticipate noise being an issue as the nearest houses are separated from the site by the busy A1.
