THE judging has taken place for the grass roots sports event of the year - The Local Heroes Awards 2002, powered by npower.
Judges faced the impossible task of choosing winners for an outstanding field of entries - but the decisions will be revealed next Thursday night at Tall Trees Hotel, near Yarm.
Whatever the results, everyone listed here deserves their place in the line-up because they are all winners.
The overall Local Hero Award, sponsored by Orange, will be chosen from the category winners.
Some nominations have been moved into different categories at the discretion of the judges.
