Darlington Mowden Park rugby 1st XV continued to have bad luck when they were denied a deserved win by a converted try in injury time at Liverpool St Helens.

They lost this Division Three North game 21-20. In atrocious conditions Mowden led 11-8 at half-time. They dictated the next 30 minutes and were 20-14 ahead when Liverpool made three substitutions.

The winning score came after the backs fell offside 25 yards out, and Liverpool scored under the posts.

Kelekolia Paino scored the first try for Mowden, and Mark Bedworth landed his second penalty. Later Bedworth landed two more penalties, and a huge drop goal

Darlington hammered West Hartlepool 48-0 in a North Division One game.

There were tries by Craig Lee, 2, David Andrew, 2, Martin Howe, and Mark Butler. Kieron Thompson converted all six tries, and also kicked two penalties.

West had a player sent off, and had another three yellow carded. Darlington had their No 8, Bryan Dixon, sent off. An injury to Rob Stewart allowed Andrew to play his first compeititive senior game for more than a year.

Mowden Park 3rds 25 Hor-den 2nds 12: Horden kicked two penalties. From the restart Mowden retained the ball and winger Alan Evans burst over to score.

Again Mowden infringed and Horden kicked the penalty. From a penalty 30m from Horden's line, Edwardson took a quick tap, and passed to Brian Riley who ducked a couple of tackles for a try. Edwardson converted.

Horden kicked another penalty. Andrew Tonkins was sinbinned, and to even things up Horden's No.8 was also sin-binned.

Edwardson kicked a penalty for Mowden. With Simon Edwards coming out of retirement and making several good runs, Mowden's Andrew Tonkin went over. Edwardson converted.

The last kick of the match saw Edwardson kick for the post, after being awarded a penalty, Mowden winning 25-12.

Mowden Park U14s 27 Houghton U14s 0: Mowden came up against a strong defence but two tries, one converted, by James Wattmore led the way to well fought victory. Further tries were by Adam Gardener, Andy Zancilbeakon and Luke Edwards.
