TWO women whose lives have been touched by cancer have joined forces to organise a fundraising event.
Margaret Sim, from Elwick, near Hartlepool, and Sue Marshall, 55, from Newton Hall, Durham, are holding an art and craft fair to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The event, which features handmade gifts by local craftspeople, will take place at the Women's Institute Village Hall, Elwick, from 11am to 5pm, on Sunday.
Ms Sim's father died from cancer of the pancreas ten years ago, and she had a breast cancer scare at about the same time.
She said: "The art and craft fair is a great way for people to buy unique Christmas presents and support a worthwhile cause at the same time."
Ms Marshall, who was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago, said: "Cancer affects so many people's lives.
"My father-in-law died of prostate cancer in June this year, and you only have to ask your friends or neighbours to find someone who has had a similar experience."
