Spennymoor manager Tony Lee was unhappy with the referee as his side went down 5-3 at Witton Albion.

Moors looked as if they would be on their way to three much-needed points when they led 3-1, but they were pegged back by two crucial decisions by the match officials.

Lee fumed: "We were 3-1 up and coasting, but then there were two diabolical decisions by the referee.

"We thought that their second goal was five yards offside, then for the equaliser Adrian Swan had the ball knocked out of his hands.

"But I was also upset with some of our defending."

Moors went a goal up after just seven minutes when Jason Ainsley's cross was turned into his own goal by Witton defender Ben Johnson, but Darren Dicken equalised from a corner.

However, Moors went back into the lead when Stuart Brightwell's shot was blocked, and Steve Preen scored from the rebound. And it was looking good for Moors when Tony Woodhouse put them 3-1 up after 55 minutes, dribbling through the defence to fire home.

Witton hit back with a goal by Carl Rendell despite Moors' offside protestations. And to add insult to injury, he scored the equaliser with Moors claiming a foul on Swan.

But just when Moors thought it was not going to get any worse the home side grabbed all three points with two goals in the last few minutes.

A poor clearance by Swan went straight to Mike Moseley who returned the ball into the net, then the same player added a fifth from close range.

Bishop Auckland's home game with Trafford was postponed because the Dean Street pitch was unplayable. In the Premier Division, Whitby had a good 1-0 win at Lancaster, Aaron Wilford scoring after 78 minutes.

Blyth lost 3-1 at home to bottom-club Hyde United, after former Darlington player Phil Brumwell gave Blyth the lead.

Gateshead were beaten 2-0 at Worksop.

* Harrogate Town chairman Bill Fotherby has announced that the club will be competing in an expanded two division Nationwide Conference League next season. Harrogate were invited to join the new initiative, possibly on a north-south split, and have already dispatched their £1,000 joining fee.

The decision to compete at Conference level will mean further ground improvements at the compact Wetherby Road.

But Fotherby, the former Leeds United chairman who took over at Wetherby Road almost three years ago when they were a struggling Unibond League Division One side, said: "We're not far away from getting the ground into Conference shape and it will be done on time, no worries about that."

Meanwhile, Fotherby says he has still not given up hope of landing the signature of former England international Paul Gascoigne on a short-term contract.
