MORE than 100 older people gathered for a party in Annfield Plain, near Stanley.

Greencroft School's annual senior citizens Christmas party featured music and dance by pupils, including well known hits from West End musicals, finishing with Christmas carols.

The show was followed by a supper in the main hall, organised by teacher Wendy Edwards and pupil volunteers.

Headteacher Chris Espiner praised the efforts of all the young people who made the evening a success. He said: "Young people often get publicity which tends to be negative and picks on the bad things. The vast majority of the pupils here are a credit to themselves, their parents and their communities."
