A NEW £326,000 healthy living centre is being created for residents in a part of the borough of Stockton.

The Healthy Living Centre will be based in the Clarences Community Centre, Port Clarence, near Billingham, and has been set up with money from the New Opportunities Fund, which distributes National Lottery money for health, education and environmental projects.

An alternative therapy centre and a peace garden will be created as part of the project and the funding means the future of the recently-opened community cafe, offering a range of healthy eating options, is secure.

The project will also offer support and training for volunteers and local people who wish to develop their skills and understanding of healthy lifestyle issues.

A full time co-ordinator will be recruited to manage the project's development.

The community centre has also become the latest host for Stockton Online, the borough council's free local computer partnership.
