HARTLEPOOL United talisman Gordon Watson is back in training - with a warning for Division Three defences.

Watson, out of action since breaking his leg against Darlington on September 14, was training with his teammates at Victoria Park yesterday.

And with Pool staying in top spot for 99 per cent of the period he has been out he insists there is only one thing on his mind - the Division Three title.

"I wrote 'Champions 2002-3' on the changing room door at the start of the season to remind everyone what the targets are. Nothing has changed,'' he vowed. "I am more enthusiastic about playing this year than ever before.''

Watson had already netted five times before his absence and is now desperate to get back in action.

He is planning to play for the reserves at Lincoln this afternoon, but that game is likely to fall victim to the weather with the Sincil Bank pitch in a poor condition.

Mike Newell has took over as manager during Watson's absence - and the change has led to rumours of a bust-up between the pair.

Watson insisted: "There have been rumours going around, but, as I have said in the past, they are for the ignorant people who have nothing better to talk about.

"I have had no argument with Mike and not one cross word.

"In fact he has told me not to rush and just to get back in due time.''

* Supporters have a chance to quiz Newell when Blackhall RAFA club hosts a question and answer session next Wednesday with the Pool chief. Admission is free for Newell's first talk-in with fans which starts at 8pm.
