A GERMAN shepherd dog that has been staying at a veterinary surgery since Christmas is looking for a new home.

Police took Sabre to Wilsons Veterinary Surgery, Bishop Auckland, on December 21, after he was believed to have been involved in a road traffic accident.

The six-year-old dog was micro-chipped but his owners had moved from the registered address in The Avenue, Chester-le-Street.

Appeals through The Northern Echo have failed to reunite him with his family and now the surgery is hoping to find him a new home.

Veterinary nurse Penny Blacklock said: "He is such a lovely dog it is a shame that we cannot find his owners.''

Sabre has been very well trained and would probably be best suited in a home with no other dogs or young children.

Ms Blacklock said: "What we are looking for is someone who has experience with the larger breeds such as German shepherds.

"He needs someone who is strong. He could offer someone a lot of love and will be a very rewarding pet.''

Anyone who can offer Sabre a home is asked to contact the vets on (01388) 602707.
