MOBILE library users in a Derwentside village will have their service doubled from today.

Durham County Council's mobile library service is adding an extra stop at Tanfield Lea's Working Men's Club from 1.35pm to 2.05pm. This is in addition to the normal stop at Parkside Cottages from 12.50pm to 1.30pm. Both sites will be visited fortnightly.

Cultural services spokesman Helen Thompson said: "Many users of the service now live nearer to the Working Men's Club and will find it more convenient to go there.

"They asked for a closer stop and we're happy to respond to their needs.

"We've a selection of books for all readers, whatever their age, and staff will be happy to get books from other libraries so readers are not restricted to those on the vehicle.

"There's also a lift for anyone who can't manage the steps and a photocopying service."

Information about the county council's mobile library service is available from libraries or on the www.durham.gov.uk website.
