TROUBLED French star Laurent Robert could have signalled the end of his Newcastle United career after claiming there is a 'conspiracy' against him in the Magpies dressing room.

The temperamental £9.5m winger who just two weeks ago pinned North-East journalist Alan Oliver to a wall after the win over Spurs at St James' Park and then later denied assaulting him, has again brought question marks over his future on Tyneside.

He has accused teammates of snubbing him during games, indicating there is rift between the home-based players at the club and the foreign imports.

Robert, who produced another lacklustre performance at Upton Park on Saturday, claims he is regularly ignored when in a scoring position.

"You can't say I get on with my teammates," said Robert, who joined the Magpies from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2001. "I only get on with the foreigners.

"I have problems with the English players but I think the other French players have the same problems.

"They're afraid of us, afraid of us becoming very strong. Yes, I have the impression there's a conspiracy against me and against our foreigners in general."

Robert has faced a testing first 18 months in the Premiership where a perceived lack of commitment in certain games have caused clashes with his teammates. The most notable case occurred after last season's 3-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield, a game which effectively ended Newcastle's ambition of lifting the Premiership crown.

But Sir Bobby Robson sees his undoubted footballing talents - on his day he is a matchwinner - outweighing his negative side, and he has continually backed his man.

But the Frenchman, who also came to blows with Andy Griffin on the training ground last season, has continually questioned his teammates on his personal website throughout his stay, and could have now paved the way for his exit from Newcastle.

"I know certain players are happy with my performances and the others think what they want," he said.

"They can accuse me for not scoring but you have to be a realist.

"They don't give me the ball when we attack, whereas I do pass it. They are counting on me to provide the balls but not to score.

"Sometimes I'm all alone in a scoring position and they don't give me the ball, they prefer to give it to another player who's not in such a good position.

"If it happened once or twice I wouldn't say anything - but it hasn't stopped since the start of the season."

Robert admits to considering his future at St James' Park, and he added in an interview with a Sunday newspaper: "Leaving the club could be a solution. But if the club no longer want me they should tell me straight.

"I have a get-out clause and I can activate it. But I don't understand anything as I'm starting in all our games."
