A VILLAGE school has won top marks from Government inspectors.

Lockwood Primary School, Boosbeck, "is an effective school that provides a good education for its pupils," said an Ofsted report.

"The leadership and management of the school are very good and there is a clear educational direction for the school's work."

Inspectors found that staff at the 170-pupil school work well as a team with the governors to the benefit of the pupils. They said: "The size of the school has grown since the last inspection and this is due to the school's improved standards."

Head teacher Julie Green said: "We are really pleased with the report's findings. It's a credit to everyone - pupils, staff, parents and governors."

The school is drawing up bids for Government funding to extend existing buildings.
