DURHAM coach Martyn Moxon, who has turned down the chance to return to Yorkshire, is determined to finish the job he started two years ago at Chester-le-Street.

The Barnsley-born former England batsman had one year left on his Durham contract and has signed a two-year extension after being approached by Yorkshire.

"The fact that Durham were wanting to extend my contract, particularly given the season we had last year, shows a lot of faith in me," he said. "I think that deserves some loyalty on my part.

"I am happy with Durham and I feel there are exciting times ahead with Test cricket coming to the club and the young players developing well.

"There is work to be done and it will take time. It's a challenge and I want to finish the job."

Moxon admitted that the reasons for him leaving Yorkshire had now been removed, and added: "I left the Yorkshire job unfinished and I don't want to do the same again.

"We have the basis of what can be a very good side and I want to develop it into one of the best in the country. If I had walked away from it I would have regretted it.

"It's not my place to comment on what Yorkshire are doing. Kevin Sharp is taking on the batting role and he has done a bit of that before.

"I feel no bitterness towards them and I wish them well, but I'm desperate to beat them because we haven't done it yet in my time with Durham."

As their own indoor school will not be ready for pre-season work, Durham are going to Old Trafford for three days from March 24. There will be no pre-season tour this year.
