Police are hunting a man who asked a young girl to get into his car in the Fordlands Road area of Fulford, York.

The girl refused the man's request and ran to a friend's house nearby. The man, who was driving a red car, was in his late 30s or early 40s and wore black clothes. He had brown greying hair. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on (01904) 631321.

FAIR DATES: The Pavilions complex, at the Great Yorkshire Showground, in Harrogate, hosts the winter antiques and fine art fair this week. Gates open at 1pm on Thursday, with the event running until Sunday. Admission costs £5.

SCHOOL RADIO: Radio enthusiasts at Trafford Amateur Radio Club were so impressed with pupils at Harrogate Ladies' College that they donated some money towards the school's radio antenna. Housed on the roof of the school, the antenna has already contacted 272 radio stations in 53 countries.

PEAL APPEAL: The bells are ringing again at the Church of St Mary and St Nicholas, Wigginton, near York. The bell tower was badly damaged in a storm last October but worshippers managed to raise £5,000 in two weeks and the bells have now been restored.

HOSPICE CASH: Members of the York Railway Institute have raised more than £1,800 for the Martin House Hospice over the holiday period. It takes the total the club has raised for the hospice since it opened in 1987 to more than £20,000.

MUSICAL CHALLENGE: The Northallerton branch of the Institute of Advanced Motorists focuses on musical matters at its next meeting at The Lodge at Leeming Bar. Richmondshire community safety officer, Gary Lewis, will be speaking about the history of music and running a quiz, from 7.30pm on Wednesday, February 12.

LEGION MEETING: The next meeting of the Richmond branch of the Royal British Legion will be held in The Green Howards Museum, at 8pm, tomorrow.
