PROPOSALS for a multi-million pound leisure complex in Scarborough are to go on show again to allay fears about which amenities may be lost.

The exhibition will be held at the Corner Complex tomorrow, from 3.30pm to 8pm, to explain the facilities being proposed.

Developer Benchmark Properties has submitted a plan to build the £120m complex, which will include a leisure centre, hotels, nightclub and casino.

Director David Rhodes said: "Our proposals for the centre are stimulating a lot of discussion around the town and that is a good thing.

"There is talk about the loss of the amenity like Kinderland, but what people maybe do not realise is that new and improved attractions for children are included in the plans."

Open-air play facilities, a family entertainment centre and covered leisure pool are some of the attractions the complex will boast.

Scarborough Borough Council's chief executive John Trebble said there were many misconceptions about Kinderland.

He said: "It was developed some 20 years ago and such tourist attractions need constant investment to keep them up-to-date and appealing to visitors.

"I am sure that what is being proposed will provide a more than adequate replacement for what Kinderland offered.
