BBC presenter and archaeologist Professor Julian Richards is to visit York to explore the city's Viking links.

As part of this year's Jorvik Viking Festival, Prof Rich-ards will give a lecture based on his acclaimed programme Blood of the Vikings, which was shown on BBC 2 last year.

The talk, on February 14, will be held at the Yorkshire Museum.

Elizabeth Hartley, keeper of archaeology, said the museum has a wealth of Viking finds and Prof Richard's visit would be the perfect opportunity to find out more about the heritage of the city.

She said: "The Yorkshire Museum is very fortunate to house wonderful examples of Viking finds in York.

"The Viking objects, when combined with our excellent Roman, Anglo-Saxon and medieval objects, make a visit to the Yorkshire Museum a stroll through the history of our city."

Visitors to the museum will be able to take part in children's Viking workshops and view the museum's Viking collections, including items not displayed before.

The Jorvik Viking Festival will run from February 15 until February 23.
