NOMINATIONS are flooding in for The Northern Echo Positive Young People Awards, sponsored by npower.

The award ceremony will take place at Darlington's Civic Theatre on Wednesday, April 2, when youngsters will be honoured for a variety of achievements.

The event, organised in conjunction with Peer Support 2000 (PS2K), Darlington Partnership, Darlington Borough Council and Stagecoach Theatre Arts, is aimed at celebrating the good work carried out by youngsters in the town.

In the past week, scores of parents, friends and teachers have been nominating young people for the awards.

Nominations can be for young people who have worked for the community, overcome illness or helped others.

Anyone nominated for an award in the two age categories must have given their time voluntarily and be under 18 or under 13 on April 25.

They can be nominated in the following categories: Contribution to the Community, under-13s and under-18s; Outstanding Achievements, under-13s and under-18s; and Against All Odds, under-13s and under-18s, which is for youngsters who have overcome adverse personal circumstances.

The awards ceremony will feature performances from Stagecoach Theatre Arts and some of the winning young people.

The deadline for nominations is Friday.
