BED and breakfasts and tourist attractions across the region have been shortlisted for an awards ceremony in London later this year.

The regional finalists in the Excellence in England Awards 2003 have been announced and the winner will be revealed at the ceremony, on Wednesday, April 23.

Each of the finalists was chosen by England's ten regional tourist boards and many of those selected for the finals are from the North-East.

Those shortlisted from the region are as follows:

* Best Bed and Breakfast: the Moorlands Country House, North Yorkshire; Thistleyhaugh Farm, *orthumberland; Jasmine Park, North Yorkshire.

* Best Large Visitor Attraction: Hartlepool Historic Quay and Museum.

* Best Self-Catering: Beech Farm Cottages, North Yorkshire; Honeysuckle and Bluebell Cottage, Northumberland.

* Best Small Hotel: Hazlewood Castle, North Yorkshire; Langley Castle Hotel, Northumberland.

* Best Large Hotel: Rudding Park Hotel and Golf, North Yorkshire; Newcastle Marriott Hotel, Newcastle upon Tyne.

* Best Tourist Information Centre: Pickering, North Yorkshire; Newcastle.

* Best Tourism Website: Northumbrian Shepherds Walks, Northumberland.
