YOUNGSTERS at a Hartlepool school are celebrating after securing a £600 grant.
The money has allowed Hart Primary School to buy a table tennis table and nets to allow children to play on normal tables.
The school, in Hart village, set up an after-school table tennis club for pupils after getting the cash from the Government's New Opportunities Fund, which channels National Lottery cash into communities.
It is also being used to pay for coaching from Ron Douglas, from Peterlee, at the weekly club sessions.
Headteacher Steve McDonnel said: "The youngsters are terribly excited about it and virtually all of them have signed up.
"Table tennis is a very energetic game and it is an excellent way of helping children to exercise and keep fit.
"It is also great for youngsters who are perhaps not at their best in larger, more competitive, sports such as football or netball.
"We are tremendously grateful for the grant from the New Opportunities Fund because none of this would have been possible without it."
