PLANS to turn a former freezer shop in Darlington town centre into a pub are on hold.
JD Wetherspoons wants to turn the building in Crown Street into a Lloyds No 1 bar.
Renovation was to start in December, but Wetherspoons says it is on hold until a dispute between the firm and the building's landlord has been resolved.
A spokesman said: "Wetherspoons is in dispute with the landlord who owns the site. We were ready to sign the contract but there has been a dispute and until that is resolved, Wetherspoons is not going to sign the deal and we can't start working on the site until that is done."
Councillors have already granted planning permission and music and drinks licences for the venue.
The pub was due to open at Easter.
