A FULLY-EQUIPPED modern office is to be opened for the South Bank Residents' Association by bookmaker Reg Boyle.

It will be used as a centre to organise social events and give people a forum to air their concerns about what is happening in the area. Mr Boyle will open the premises, in Normanby Road, at 2pm on Friday, February 14. Meetings of the association will be held every third Tuesday of the month, with the first meeting scheduled for February 18.

ESTATE RENEWED: Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is carrying out a neighbourhood renewal exercise in the Brickyard area of Brotton to see how residents want to improve one of the oldest housing estates in the area. The council wants to see how the provision of shopping, health and leisure can be made easier for people. This is coupled with a neighbourhood management pilot scheme on the estate, so residents will be more involved in the delivery of services from the council.

LIFESTYLE COURSES: Two six-week healthy lifestyle courses are starting for people of all ages. Line dancing, reflexology, yoga and tai chi are on offer during the course, which costs £13. One will be held at Prior Pursglove College, Guisborough, on Mondays, between 6.30pm and 8pm, starting today. The other course will be held at Rosedale House, Kirkham Road, Nunthorpe, between 10.30am and noon, and will run every Thursday, starting from this week. For further information, call Louise Allan on (01642) 444 385.

ROADWORKS RESUME: Lane closures and temporary traffic lights are to be used during off-peak travelling times as roadworks resume in Middlesbrough today. The Marton Road scheme is expected to take six months, while work on Acklam Road should take five months. Middlesbrough Council expects traffic to be affected but says the changes will make roads safer for children, pedestrians and cyclists.

COFFEE MORNING: Newcomen Methodist Church, in Mersey Road, Redcar, will hold a coffee morning on Saturday, between 10am and 11.30am. Admission is 40p and profits will go towards church funds.
