HOUNDS from the Hurworth Hunt were yesterday preparing for their bi-centennial meet this morning at Neasham Abbey, near Darlington.
They were given a run in the snow close to their kennels at West Rounton, near Northallerton, North Yorkshire, by huntsman Joe Townsend.
"The snow's not good for hunting because it can ball up under the horses' feet and can easily tip them over," said master Keith Balbach.
The Hurworth Hunt, one of the oldest in the North-East and North Yorkshire, was founded in 1803 by the owner of Neasham Abbey.
At least 100 people are expected for this morning's meet at 11am, which will be the first time in about 50 years that the hunt has gathered at the abbey.
