Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury, will be visiting Holy Rood House, Thirsk, at the weekend.

He will be giving a lecture to the Centre for the Study of Theology and Health, in St Oswald's Church, Sowerby, on Friday evening. He will also preach at the Sunday morning service at St Mary's Church, Thirsk. Tickets for the lecture cost £5. For details, call (01845) 522580.

VALENTINES EVENT: Enable, the disabled and carers group of the Endeavour Housing Association, in Thornaby, is holding a Valentine's night at the Lord Westbury pub, in Thornaby, on February 12, at 7.30pm. Admission is £1.50. There will be bingo, buffet and a quiz.

PERMISSION GIVEN: A partnership between Boroughbridge Community Association and Harrogate Borough Council will see farmland converted into playing fields. Planners have approved an outline application for the field at Aldborough Gate, Aldborough, near Boroughbridge.

VIDEO VISITS: Thirsk Museum has confirmed the date of the launch of a facility which allows those with mobility problems a virtual tour of the first floor. Access is difficult for those with special needs, so a DVD has been produced to show exhibitions taking place upstairs. The facility will be available for the first time when the museum reopens for the new season on Monday, April 7.

MP'S MEMORIES: Guildford's Liberal-Democrat MP Sue Doughty returned to her roots when she visited her old primary school in York. She was a pupil at Westfield primary when it first opened in 1952 and her parents still live in the city. She returned to take part in a sponsor-a-brick scheme to build an extension.
