Scaffolding will be erected at the East End of York Minster next week to allow an inspection before the start of a five to six-year programme of restoration.
The work will be carried out by the carvers and masons of the minster's stoneyard after the inspection by the Surveyor of the Fabric, architect Richard Carr-Archer
The East End of the minster was built between 1361 and 1472 and the Great East Window contains the largest single expanse of medieval stained glass in England, covering 1680 sq ft.
