A TRAINEE hairdresser is celebrating after winning an award.
Tracey May, a student at Stockton Riverside College, took part in a competition organised by the National Hairdressing Federation.
The 25-year-old was entered for the competition by Vocational Training and Assessment (VTA), which runs hairdressing, beauty therapy and holistics courses at the college.
The competition, held at Marton Country Club, Middlesbrough, was made up of six sections. Ms May won the Walker Rose bowl for the best ladies trainee blow dry and beat off competition from trainees at other colleges and salons.
She said: "I am surprised but pleased with my win. I started my hairdressing course in September, so I still have lots to learn."
