Cleveland Police has today announced the appointment of Sean Price as the new Chief Constable for the force.

The current Deputy Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police will take over when the existing chief Barry Shaw retires next month.

"I am absolutely delighted to be coming to a force with a reputation that Cleveland has," said Chief Constable elect Price.

"It is well known for high-tech capabilities, forward-thinking and innovative policing."

"I have already met some of its officers, the support staff and I am looking forward to working with the police authority."

Mr Price beat five other applicants from forces in England Scotland and Wales to win the post.

His appointment was described by police authority chairman Councillor Ken Walker as 'very good news for the force and the entire local community.'

Coun Walker added: "Sean Price was the best out of a very high quality field of officers who applied for the post."

"We were very impressed with his range and depth of experience, both in the delivery of front-line policing and in dealing with the structural and organisational issues facing a modern police force."
