ONE of the region's best known miniature railways is to re-open after being rebuilt for £150,000.
Volunteers at the Saltburn Miniature Railway, in east Cleveland, had been holding their breath ahead of a Health and Safety Executive inspection last week following the work.
Now an inspector has given the railway, closed all last year for track relaying work, the all-clear to open to the public at Easter.
Volunteer Reg Blacklock said funding for track relaying had come from the Lottery and the European Union, with other refurbishments paid for by the railway group.
He said: "We'd been waiting for the inspector to call for some time and you can imagine how pleased we were that everything is okay. Now it is about getting everything shipshape in time."
Mr Blacklock said the railway, which first opened in 1947, was closed and left derelict for eight years in the 1980s until a group of enthusiasts took it over.
It is due to be open from Easter Sunday to the end of September.
